Our Story
"In His hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” JOB 12:10
Our farm’s story begins long before the fences were built or the barns were filled. It starts with a little girl who couldn’t walk past an animal in need.
I grew up just down the road from a dairy farm, and our own property became one of the most common drop‑off spots in the county. Dogs, cats, small animals, even the occasional injured wild creature—if they needed help, somehow they found their way to us. I spent my childhood nursing sick kittens, bottle‑feeding orphaned wildlife, and tracking down homes for lost dogs that were never claimed.
By my teens, I had a special place in my heart for the small and the overlooked—bunnies, pocket pets, and the fragile little lives that so often slip through the cracks. I grew up surrounded by fish tanks and lizards, too, learning early that every creature, no matter how tiny, carries a story worth honoring.
Horses were part of my life from the beginning. I rode, trained, and showed them for years, but everything changed in my twenties when I adopted my first mustang. He was wild, unsure, and full of fire—and he humbled me in the best way. He taught me that no matter how much experience you think you have, there is always more to learn, more patience to give, and more grace to offer. Because of him, several more mustangs found their way into my life. Some have since moved on to new pastures, but the ones who remain at our sanctuary are those with injuries or behavioral challenges that make them unsafe to ride. Here, they are safe, seen, and loved—just as they are.
In my thirties, I met my husband, Nick, and together we put down roots in Scottville. Not long after, I began noticing how many senior and special‑needs animals were being abandoned at shelters. Many people shy away from older pets because the goodbye comes too soon. But I believe every animal deserves to feel cherished before they leave this world. Love is never wasted, even when it’s brief.
Living with a rare disability has shaped my heart for these animals in ways I never expected. I understand what it feels like to be limited, to be misunderstood, to need extra care. That empathy has become part of the mission here. Our sanctuary is a place where the overlooked, the fragile, and the forgotten are welcomed with open arms.
Our faith guides us quietly but steadily. We believe that caring for creation is one way we reflect the heart of God—through gentleness, stewardship, and compassion. Scripture reminds us that “the righteous care for the needs of their animals,” and that simple truth has become a thread woven through everything we do.
Today, our farm is a refuge for mustangs, seniors, special‑needs animals, and the many creatures who simply need a soft place to land. This work is not always easy, but it is always worth it. Every life we touch is a reminder that hope can be restored, healing can happen, and love—real, patient, unconditional love—still changes everything.
This is our story.
And we’re grateful you’re here to be part of it.
